Carmen Sandiego Wiki
Main Article

Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? is an animated television show. Produced by DiC Entertainment, the show originally aired as part of the Fox Kids Saturday morning block. The show was first broadcast on February 5, 1994, and went off the air January 2, 1999. A total of 4 seasons were completed with 40 episodes.

As with every other incarnation of Carmen Sandiego, members of the ACME Detective Agency chase after the famous thief. In this case, the heroes are a pair of sibling detectives, Zack and Ivy. The Chief, a computer AI, helps the detectives by providing them with information. Carmen's thefts are still outrageous and many of the V.I.L.E. henchmen have comedy names, though some of the more serious criminals do not.

The show is depicted as taking place inside a computer game. The opening and closing of each show has the player communicated with Carmen via computer. Zack and Ivy will often ask for the player to open C5 corridors. Also, the game's menu is sometimes used as a transition between scenes.

The earlier episodes follow the formula of the games: Carmen steals something, the detectives recover it, and Carmen escapes. As the show progressed, episodes began to focus on Carmen's good side and her weaknesses. Near the end of the show's run, Carmen began teaming up with Zack and Ivy regularly to stop less moral criminals.

In 1990, the Children's Television Act was passed, requiring all full-service television stations to broadcast at least three hours of educational programming a week. Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? was created to meet that requirement for Fox. The episode for each script had to be submitted to Broderbund (the original parent company of the franchise) for approval.
