Liberia, officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country in West Africa. Its neighbors are Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Cote d'Ivoire. Liberia was originally settled by freed and free-born black Americans, and its capital, Monrovia, is named after U.S. President James Monroe.

Liberia was referenced in at least four episodes of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, including:

  • The Gateway Getaway: settled by freed American slaves
  • Superscam: Monrovia is capital; privately-owned ships, rainforest, and pygmy hippos
  • Crook Snatches Natchez: Maryland County, founded by people who moved freedmen back to Africa
  • In The Lion Sting, the Gumshoes look for clues in three trash cans. These clues reveal that Liberia's people speak English, its capital is Monrovia, and it is Africa's first independent republic.
