Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia. Officially, the population of the city is about 475,000; however, it is estimated to be more than 660,000 — approximately 150% of the official figures! Bratislava is located at the foot of the Little Carpathians, occupying both banks of the River Danube and the left bank of the River Morava. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two sovereign states.
Bratislava was referenced in at least two episodes of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, including:
- The Case of the Cribbed Crater: city located at the feet of the Little Carpathians and on the Danube River (At the time the episode was filmed, it was a city in Czechoslovakia, then under President Vaclav Havel, a writer.)
- The Gambian Gambit: city walls and unusual-looking castle
